ELLISVILLE NEWS–May 4th, 2023: Guest Performer At CSLN; Upcoming Round; Calling All Drummers

Hi Everyone,

It’s springtime here in Ellisville (And most places, I imagine), where most of the year, we have 3 kinds of weather: Too hot, too cold, or too wet. But once in a while, we have a stretch of nice mild/warm weather, and we are having that now.

I haven’t posted in a while, as there hasn’t been a lot to post, but I did want to share a few things. Sunday, May 7th, I will be the Guest Performer at the CSLN Service, doing three of my original songs. It’s always an honor to do that, and I love performing with our great band. Service starts at 11 a.m., and I will be going on a few minutes after that. Dr. Mitch Johnson (The founder of CSLN) will be giving the talk, and he is always interesting. 6705 Charlotte Pike, Nashville. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch it live or later at our YouTube channel: csln.TV .

I am still looking for a new drummer for my band–strong preference for someone who is good at singing harmonies (And of course is reliable, easy to work with, etc). If you know of someone, or if you are that someone please contact me, as I want to book more full band gigs again. In the meantime, I will be part of a 3 song round at The Well coffeehouse on Tuesday, May 16th at 8 p.m. This monthly writers night is a “listening room,” which makes it appealing for doing original material. 4002 Granny White Pike, Nashville, 37204.

Well, that’s all there is, ’cause there ain’t no more–for now.

Be safe, be well, be you.

Gordon

ELLISVILLE NEWS–Mar. 27, 2023: REMINDER AND CORRECTION

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that the Gordon Ellis Ensemble will be performing at Phat Bites in Donelson this Thursday, 3/30/23 from 7 – 8 P.M., opening for the Jim Martin Band. Please note that the Facebook Invite had the time wrong (It said 6 p.m.), and try as I might, I was unable to change it. I even cancelled and re-scheduled the event, and it still showed up wrong, and for a while , it even said “Event Cancelled.” It isn’t. I’m sorry for any confusion, but I still hope you can make it. 2730 B Lebanon Pike, Nashville, Tn. 37214.

In the meantime, if you have watched the news, you have undoubtedly heard about the tragic school shooting in Nashville. Most of you know where I stand on the issue of guns, and I won’t use this invitation to editorialize, however, if you have my “Messages” CD, you might want to listen to my song “Anger And A Gun.”

Have a great week–Be safe, be well, be you.

ELLISVILLE NEWS–March 23, 2023: Gordon Ellis Ensemble Performing Again At Phat Bites

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are doing well where you are, and enjoying Spring. Here in Ellisville, Spring has arrived, but Winter and Summer have been battling it out for a couple of weeks, with temps ranging from the 20s to the 80s. We even had a storm that blew down my back patio gate (Again). Winter has put up a good fight, but it looks like Summer may finally be getting the upper hand.

As mentioned last month, I would like to invite you to come out to Phat Bites in Donelson next Thursday, March 30th, where the Gordon Ellis Ensemble will again be opening for Jim Martin’s band from 7 – 8 P.M. We got a great response last month, and are pleased to be invited back. Phat Bites is located at 2730 B, Lebanon Pike, Nashville, 37214. It is at the other end of the parking lot from McNamara’s Pub, and right by Ace Hardware.

I want to thank Larry Faragalli and the CSLN Band for doing an excellent job backing me at the Sunday Service on March 5th. Between them and my own ensemble, I feel blessed to have such great talent supporting my music.

Not much else to share this month, so I’ll end here.

Be safe, be well, be you!

ELLISVILLE NEWS–March 2nd, 2023: Performing At CSLN Sunday Service, and Another Upcoming Phat Bites Gig

Hi Everyone,

This is one of those newsletters with minimal news, so I’ll keep it brief. First, thanks to everyone who came out to Phat Bites in February to see my band, the Gordon Ellis Ensemble perform. We did a one hour set opening for Jim Martin’s band, and got a great response. He has booked us to open for him again on Thursday, March 30th from 7 – 8 p.m. I will send more info as it gets closer, but there is a possibility we will need to re-schedule, as one of our members may have a conflict. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, this Sunday, March 5th, I will be performing three of my songs at the CSLN Sunday Service. They have a great band, so it is always an honor to have them back me. The service starts at 11 a.m., and my songs will be scattered throughout the service. Dr. Mitch Johnson will be giving the talk.

Well, that kinda does it for now.

Be safe, be well, be you.

ELLISVILLE NEWS–Feb. 3rd, 2023: A Burst Pipe And COVID; Upcoming Gig And Writers’ Night Ending

Hi Everyone,

I hope the new year has gotten off to a good start for you. For me–eh? The morning of Christmas Eve after temps as low as -1 here, I had a pipe burst inside my living room wall, and it took nearly a week for the plumber to come out. Bah humbug! It was finally fixed, and I had insulation placed inside the wall which was where the pipe actually burst.

On Jan. 4th, I came down with COVID. Compared to a lot of people, it was relatively mild with only a low grade fever, but the coughing was really hard. I am better now, but it took until yesterday for my singing voice to come back.

—————————————–

Speaking of singing, the GORDON ELLIS ENSEMBLE will be performing at Phat Bites in Donelson this coming Thursday, Feb. 9th from 7 – 8 P.M., opening for Jim Martin. This is a re-scheduling of the gig that was initially set for Jan.12th and had to be cancelled because of COVID. Phat Bites is a nice place with a good food menu–I loved their BLT with Avocado. The address is 2730 B Lebanon Pike, Nashville, 37214. I expect this to be a great show. If you haven’t seen us before (Or even if you have), I hope you can make it out.

—————————————-

Finally, the CSLN Writers’ Night has ended, at least for now. Attendance simply didn’t justify putting in the effort each month. AJ Bigler did Herculean job trying to keep it going, scheduling performers, promoting it, usually doing the sound, etc. but until overall attendance at CSLN increases, it just doesn’t make sense. Thanks, AJ, and Ray who also did the sound, and to everyone who was a Featured Performer, Spotlight Performer, or who performed at the Open Mic.

Well, that’s about it for this month. Be safe, be well, be you.
